Mid-Ulster Open 2010

The Mid-Ulster Open 2010 was held at McNallys Inn  South Derry,  28 players from all over Ulster took part in a 3 division league,

British Open champion Shane McCosker won the masters section with 17 points followed by Francis McNally (15), Peter Kearns (14) and John McElhone (12)

Brian Laverty dominated the senior section  from the off and won it comfortably with 18 points followed by Charlie McElroy (15) Liam Kelly Jnr (14) and Sean McGee (13)

The intermediate section proved to be the toughest of the lot with 4 players all finishing on equal points (15).  Veteran Patsy Quinn took top prize on honour points above Andy Montieth, Joe Fullerton and Billy Grant.

Kildare Open 2010 - Report by Bill Dobbins

The Kildare Open Draughts Tournament 2010, was held in the Town House Hotel Naas on the 20/21 February. We had players from North , South, East and West of Ireland, also players from overseas. We had four players from Scotland, and one from Denmark. We do appreciate the great support from Colin, Graham Young, Anthony Rose, Bernard Coll, from Scotland and Sune Thrane from Denmark. And to all those who played in the competition thank you for your support.

A total of 38 players were entered in three sections, Masters 15 players, Seniors 14 players and Intermediates 9 players, with all levels keenly contested. The Intermediates was won by Brenda Davis on 15 points, second was Julian McGuinness on 13 points, third was Paddy Byrne 12 points, also on 12 points but with lower honour points was Cormac Murphy, who took fourth place. Congratulations to each of the above.

The Seniors was won by Bernard Coll from Scotland on 16 points, second was Sean Davis on 13 points (50h/p) third was Brendan Crawley on 13 points (40h/p) fourth was the evergreen P J Furey on 12 points, fifth from Scotland was Anthony Rose on 11 points (54h/p). Just missing out on prize money were Graham Young on 11 points 53h/p) and Billy Kelly on 11 points (50h/p)

The Masters was won by Shane McCosker on 14 points (51h/p) from Colin Young in second place, also on 14 points (49h/p) Garrett Owens was third on 13 points, and Francis McNally fourth on 12 points, Paddy Doyle was fifth on 11points.Congratulations to all of the prize winners.

N. Ireland open will be held on Easter week, Tuesday - Wednesday - Thursday (Easter Sunday April 4th)

Tuesday 6th thru Thursday 8th of April, 2010 at the Battery Bar in Moortown

Approximately 10 miles from Cookstown, Ireland.

2 Divisions: Seniors & Masters with 3 rounds of play per day.

Play begins at 10 am each morning with registration required at 9:30 am on Tuesday

Francis McNally will take on Myles Hannigan in a 12 game match during the 3 days. Each player is putting forward £1000 with the winner taking all.

Irish Open and WCDF 3 Move Qualifier 2010

WCDF Qualification Tournament 2010

A bid has been accepted from the Irish Draughts Association to host the 2010 Qualifying Tournament at the “Radisson Hotel” at Dublin Airport, Dublin, Ireland, from Wednesday 27th to Saturday 30th October 2010. (The Irish Open will be held at the same venue from Saturday 23rd Oct 2010, to Tuesday 26th Oct 2010.)

The first ten players in the Qualifying Tournament will be given €100 each. The overall winner will be the official challenger to play Alex Moiseyev for the World (3 Move) Championship title in 2011. In the event of the winner declining this opportunity, the next highest finishing player will become the challenger. The person who plays Alex Moiseyev for the world title will receive a bonus payment of €2,000 (approx US$2,900 at today’s exchange rate) from the I.D.A. after the match is concluded. It is also intended to host a Women’s and Youth event subject to entries.
