Kildare Open 2010 - Report by Bill Dobbins


The Kildare Open Draughts Tournament 2010, was held in the Town House Hotel Naas on the 20/21 February. We had players from North , South, East and West of Ireland, also players from overseas. We had four players from Scotland, and one from Denmark. We do appreciate the great support from Colin, Graham Young, Anthony Rose, Bernard Coll, from Scotland and Sune Thrane from Denmark. And to all those who played in the competition thank you for your support.

A total of 38 players were entered in three sections, Masters 15 players, Seniors 14 players and Intermediates 9 players, with all levels keenly contested. The Intermediates was won by Brenda Davis on 15 points, second was Julian McGuinness on 13 points, third was Paddy Byrne 12 points, also on 12 points but with lower honour points was Cormac Murphy, who took fourth place. Congratulations to each of the above.

The Seniors was won by Bernard Coll from Scotland on 16 points, second was Sean Davis on 13 points (50h/p) third was Brendan Crawley on 13 points (40h/p) fourth was the evergreen P J Furey on 12 points, fifth from Scotland was Anthony Rose on 11 points (54h/p). Just missing out on prize money were Graham Young on 11 points 53h/p) and Billy Kelly on 11 points (50h/p)

The Masters was won by Shane McCosker on 14 points (51h/p) from Colin Young in second place, also on 14 points (49h/p) Garrett Owens was third on 13 points, and Francis McNally fourth on 12 points, Paddy Doyle was fifth on 11points.Congratulations to all of the prize winners.
